It gives me great pleasure to write the foreword to The Lawyer's Companion. The book has three parts. Part I contains the Evidence Act; Rules of Courts and Practice Directions; Part II contains selected Statutes and Constitutional Provisions relevant to the jurisdiction of various Courts; while Part III is a Case Law guide. The Case Law guide contains a synopsis of over two hundred decisions of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. It presents in a graphic and concise manner, a summary of several important decisions of the Court of Appeal and The Supreme Court on matters of Law, Practice and Procedure. The compilation has been done in a user friendly manner, while the Rules of Court have been updated in accordance with tha provisions of the 1999 Constitution.

The fact that majority of the cases succint summarised are Judgments of Supreme Court of Nigeria and therefore, final authorities concerning the varied subjects covered, stand the book out. The Lawyer's Companion should therefore be of tremendous appeal an assistance to Lawyers, Judges, Law students and many others interested in how the Law works in practice. Practising lawyers in particular, will find the book handy.

There is no doubt that the author, Layi Babatunde Esq; has brought to bear on the publication of the Lawyer's Companion, his exerience at the Bar and as publisher / Editor-in-Chief of Judgments of the Supreme Court of Nigeria (S. C. Reports). I therefore commend the book to Lawyers, Judges, Law students
and others intersted in how the Law works in practice.
